In search of Leiarius
My fish are coming with me. All five are catfish and they range in size of 2ft to 3ft. I am going to catch them with a large pillow case and stick them into 37gallon totes.

What supplies Should I get?
I want to run battery air pumps to air stones for the totes. The move is going to be 4hrs worth of traveling. I have pond prime to dose when at rest stops and will even do water changes at rest stops.
Should I use sponge filters for the move even with water changes being made?

How should I heat the water in the totes?

You could get a converter for your cigg lighter so you could use regular air pump. I think as long as you got the air stones you should be fine. If you want get sponge filters established in your tank before.you go so you have some bio it will only help since they are large. Sound like you got a pretty good plan though. If its hot where you are keep an eye on the water temp so it doesnt get too hot. Make sure to secure the lids on the totes well. Hope all goes well with your move. I had to move 10 tanks when I bought a house a few years ago, it was alot of fun.lol Luckily I only went 15 min away

Four hours is not long. Use clean tap water and not tank water. Discontinue feeding at least two days prior to the move. I would use two pumps per tote unless they are powerful enough to run two stones. Don't worry about heat unless you're in a place where temps are below 70 degrees.

Maybe get a large net from pond supply,or easier from the fishing stores.pillow case will remove too much fish slime from them,I think

from cel

Thanks.

Pillow case because the last time i used a net on them some of their fin spines broke and grew back shorter so either way there's trade-offs and slime coat is easier to heal from my experience. Ya I just fond out about those dc to ac inverters for the vehicles. Do they drain the cars battery pretty bad? I'm thinking I only have to worry about that when the engine isn't running right?
Im moving in 12 days from an area that has a temp range of 17f to 110f to an area that has a 63f to 90f temp range.
I was thinking to heat the totes because i want to do a water change halfway or is dosing with pond prime just as good?
To do this move I have to move the filter and tank at the same time as the fish and then after arrival setup the tank and filters, add new bacteria to the tank and then add fish after everything has settled and circulated for an hour, good plan?

The ac converter should not take too much power just.using air pump. Just dont leave car off a long time. Pillow case will not harm fish just make sure it is good and wet first. Its the best way to move large fish IMO. Koi socks are good too just real expensive. I assume you have a sump or other large.filter on your tank if so. Take some of your bio media put it in a media bag and run the airstone to the bottom of the bag. And put one or two in each tote(make sure you get it to sink). This will do two things help keep water in tote good and hopefully keep you bio alive and ready for your tank after the move.

It might help, I got BIG filters, without water one weighs around 300lbs(bio filter). im glad the converters work so well, ill pick up one and a new air pump tomorrow.

Im scared to ask but with a filter that big, how big is your tank? Have you figured put how your gonna move it? What type of cats you got?

It's a 300 gallon stock tank that I use as a heated outdoor pond (it's insulated), I have 3 leiarius pictus, 1 leiarius marmoratus, 1 leiarius hybrid (all large catfish). They are messy and the large filter is nice because it holds the beneficial bacteria that need oxygen and the beneficial bacteria that doesn't need oxygen. To move it is a chore but i just drain it of water and remove half of the media( place the media into another container) and since it is a 65 gallon plastic barrel I just dolly it out and onto the moving truck, also another person to help guide it is nice to have.
