View attachment 485011welcome to mfk.... and nice to meet you.. need any help around the forum just ask... this forum is huge so enjoy yourself... and don't get lost..lol those are Melanochromis auratus cichlids from lake malawi... i like them...sometimes aggressive ... but mine weren't so it is individual fish thing.. have a few hiding spots for them.. small caves etc.. and visit us in the african rift forum here on mfk... we will help you...

It almost looks like a bumblebee cichlid.

Welcome. and the fish is a melanochromis auratus. I have a breeding pair and the male is aggressive as hell.

Yes M. Aurautus. They have a mean disposition. The dominant male will turn dark brown and the females and sub dominant males will remain yellow. Lots of little hiding spots are a must. I am not sure how it will do with the firemouths; my main concern would be that the dietary needs are alot different. Mbuna species prefer a low protein diet with lots of vegetable. I feed mine 100% spirulina. They are prone to bloat. They are a great fish and full of personality..they are the "bad boys of the mbuna". enjoy.
