im no good with dithers. help with c.a.c dithirs

i bought three balas and one got killed by tha dumba$$ big gt. i thot it wuld do fine because the gt is very passive to anything not orange, or so i thot. i have two left and the big gt iz in tha 55g. the balas life plan so far is going to go into a 125g as dithirs with breeding jags once they grow. i feel stupid and sad becuz i liked my balas and they were three inches when tha gt was seven.:duh: :cry: :duh: :cry: :irked:


pleez no heat but kuld yu guys give me some advice. they will have a divider nearby for them and the female jag when they breed but that wont happen for a while. shuld i get some more and if so can they be held in a 125g with jags?:help2:
 
I wouldn't expect a 7" gt to be excepting of anything in a 55g, especially if he's been housed alone all this time. If i were to try anything with him it would be some Giant danios, they are very adgile and about the only thing he wouldn't catch.

As for dithers with a "breeding" pair of Mana's in a 125g, i would advice against it. They may do ok whilst they are not breeding, but once they begin to spawn you could pretty well kiss them goodbye. I wouldn't try to keep them behind a divider either, the Mana's will need all 125g when spawning.

Just my opinion.:D
 
auriluis barbs are agile enough to keep out of harms way if you have plant cover. as for the jags. there is no hope for anything in a 125 once they get breeding.
 
thanks guys, i really like them so i hope to get them their own 55g with 3 silver dollars and 3 blue gourami. will they be okay together or a 75g. as for dithirs i might try some gd's next paycheck, thanks marc. also, the gt was not by itself. it was with a smaller gt and baby jag, just so yu know
so all i have to ask now is will their community work or should i start saving for a 75g?

55's way too small for 2 GT's and even one big one is pushing it.

Go 75 for the pair and I'd leave it at that. No other tankmates. Especially if they are paired up. The Jag will outgrow the 75 too IMO. Sounds like a lot of trouble ahead

Striped Anostomus are fast as heck and can hide under and behind things pretty well too. I have one as a dither in my Convict tank. But some can get mean and will shred fish fins.
 
sry i didnt mak that clear. i meant silver d bala and gourami combination in the 55g. pleez tell me quickly cuz im about to go some where. the gt and jag are of course not going in to the 55g, they hv plans already to go into big tanks (seperate). the big gt is in there tempararily till i clear my convict tank for him and his girlfriend.
