freakdaddy you are correct , bowfin are in fact banned / restricted to license in UK , due to possible survival of our winters.
also all Channa are banned in Scotland only , this is due to the same bill restricting cold water fishes and a mistake by the Scottish gov , in the england they listed Channa Argus only, as invasive , but in Scotland whoever wrote the bill simply wrote Channa , this officially leaves all Channa illegal to own without license in Scotland , i think the gov knows this is a mistake and hence as done nothing to enforce the law as far as any other Channa other than Argus goes , however they are probably thinking that when the e.u wide ban comes in stopping all wild importation of Channa throughout Europe this will sort its self out anyway , after all there is relatively few people breeding Channa esp. in the UK ,so after the e.u ban i think you will be very lucky to see a Channa in a lfs again , most will be sold via classified adds ect , also if you look at the trends in things like zebra plecs , black arowana ect , when theese things become rare you can expect prices to be through the roof , i clearly remember buying my first black arowana for £12 and sold it later for £200 , if we want to see any future in Channa throughout the hobby we all need to take a leaf out of freakdaddy pascal uli ect ects book and try our hand at breeding these great fish before its too late , unfortunately the only ones that are commercially breed are the giants for the food industry in Asia , undoubtedly these will still make there way over here, so breeding these is not as important as the dwarf and medium size channa
