I'm not that clumsy!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My biggest concern would be that exposed batting from a health/environmental view. Those fine fibers float in the air and are easily inhaled or can land in the tank.
I assume lids and canopy style top would help with that.
Evaporation / humidity could be a concern as well with exposed floor joist above.

Parka Parka I see the stock is mostly goldfish from the pictures so I guess heating isn’t an issue.
What type filtration are you running on such a large tank?

What a strange thread.
OP has built an undeniably cool and huge tank by himself that may or may not have thick enough glass. Either way it looks really good and shows a high level of skill.
Some wish the OP well and some wish his tank to flood due to his bizarre rudeness, OP is also very concerned we all are aware that he is 10 days older than madonna but doesnt want to have sex with her which is possibly not related to the glass thickness controversy .
Now the tank is full everyone is on the edge of their seats to see what happens next, hopefully the technical questions regarding the filtration etc. get answered as it is quite interesting.

My own question is are there 2 pieces of glass or just 1 and does the centre brace make any difference to how much water weight the glass can hold back?

I can't see well enough inside the Chicago tank and am unfamiliar with the city of Akron. Are they going to be scaped with landmarks from these cities?

Thanks for the question! I got Goldfish because of, it was a happy accident! Allow me to explain. When I built Akron I had grand plans of keeping North American predator fish, Pike or pickerel in particular and my plan was to just get some feeder goldfish to activate the undergravel filter. Well I fell in love with the Goldfish! And I bought a whole bunch of them, feeders and some other kind called Shebunkin. The Shebunkins have lots of color variation and wide tails, I love the big tails.

And I started buying some Koi too, my gosh! They are pigs! And the Koi grow considerably faster than goldfish.

Right now the Chicago set up is temporary, Im using a Danner 1350 GPH pump just hooked up to 12" box filter that I use as pre-filters, and the outflow that would push water through an undergravel filter, it is just moving water in the tank for now.

My permanent plan to filter Chicago will also be an undergravel and I purchased a small Pond Boss pump rated at 3,750 GPH. And this is where I will need advice and help. Plumbing! It is the bane of my watery existence! So many different pieces and parts and sizes and I don't the name of any of them!

Here is a pic of the pump. I'm bothered that the input is not threaded because I would like to use or fashion some type of pre filter, possibly a skimmer?

Any ole way, I'm severely bothered by my lack of plumbing chops!

It is two pieces of glass, 72"x42" and the window openings are 68"x34". If I had a slab a' glass 12 feet long, There wouldn't be a center brace! Center brace ugly!
The simple truth is I am not an expert and like to do stuff and try things and push limits! I'm also glad to meet you, Ogertron3000 Ogertron3000
