I'm officially a Pike lover---ID this new one for me

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice one balton!!! i got a 14'' female I have to sell this month. Gonna miss her.....

It's weird I've had cichlids for a long time but always thought pikes were clumsy awkward fish. In contrast, they are very agile and powerful swimmers.

Here's another photo of the Lents first day in the tank. He's hiding and dark from stress.
Also a few pics of the pike that one me over to the dark side of pike keeping. This awesome Venezuela has a lot of personality and a huge appetite.

Awesome man! The more you get, the more fun it becomes!! Awesomely done. It looks like its the lenticulata/strigata variant though. A lot of the pikes coming in lately have been looking more like strigata then lenticulata...kinda annoying when you want a lenticulata, but since they look so similar as juv, its kinda difficult to tell them apart as juv. Either way, you got an AWESOME fish!! Rich has some great pikes, suprised you didn't get any of his fires...;)

how much was shipping, not too far from there? great prices on those pikes too.

wouldn't trust the tigrinus but as usual ya never know.

Shipping was a bit high but because of my busy work schedule I needed to do Fedex. It left California at 6:42pm and hit my doorstep the next morning at 9:00am. That to me was worth the extra $$. He did offer me airport to airport and seemed concerned about trying to save me money which I appreciated.

I wanted an Atabapo but I would have to keep them in the same tank and I was afraid they would kill one another. Everything I've read says they hate similar shaped fish? How do they know what shape they are? :D

Its not neccessarily similar shaped fish, its more other pikes. Generally though, with Lugubris pikes, you can get away with it for a while, especially if they are juv. Best thing is to buy groups and let them grow out together....;). There are several members on here who keep multiple pike species in the same tanks with minimal problems...;)

The pic he has of them looks like a tigrinus to me, Brachyplatystoma, not Crenicichla.
