I am packing in fish keeping. I just can't take it anymore. I spend hundreds of dollars a day on supplies and other things I need. I just spent $160 on chemicals and what not today. I love it but I am breaking down very fast and my fish aren't helping. I have to come home seperate them ,shut the lights off, turn them on, make sure they aren't fighting. Make sure everyone is eating. Quarintine sick fish or ones that need to be healed all the time because they are constantly beating each other up. I have do tank maintenance every 4hours because there is something constantly going wrong( fish breaking my heaters, filters, deco, thermometers, and other stuff). I know most of this is what comes with fishkeeping but I always have something going wrong. My 29 gallon that I was using as a QT tank for my Zaliosus because he has pop eye just started leaking today. Water was all over, filters burned up, heaters burnt out, and my Zaliosus has to be transfered to another tank while he is supposed to be happy and getting well again. It just seems everything has to go wrong for me. I don't mind doing maintenance on the tanks but every 4 hours COME ON!! Tell me that is rediculous. I am flat broke right now because I just had to buy more new filters as I just bought them 2 weeks ago and the warranties won't cover fish breaking the equipment. I can't put any of my fish together. All my tanks are trashed because they ALL are destructive. My Angel pair is now killing their babies even though all fry have been moved. They must be retarted or something. Any thoughts :WHOA: :screwy: :screwy:   . I am SOOO tempted to sell all my tanks immediately but will have to make a final decision. This is soooo stressful and hard but I LOVE FISH KEEPING.

Sorry to hear that...Well monster fish are not always the best like people say, and the hobby isn't about having huge fish and huge tanks. You could just keep a 55 gallon fish tank with some small community fish or something.

Holy cow Cross. Simmer down now....Thats crazy talk!

You've given me a lot of good advice since I've joined here. SO with that in mind this most likely isn't a result of bad choices in species, as much as choosing to do too much too fast. Like others have said... tighten up your operation. Cut it down to a few tanks/fish that really hold your interest.

Remember:
Rehab is for quitters...not fishkeeping

JK. Anyway if that doesn't work, then sit in a comfy chair. Cook a couple brats on the grill, flip on the TV and watch the Packers beat the Vikings this weekend :D Always makes me feel better....4-0 Baby!!:headbang2 :headbang2 :headbang2

Go Pack GO!

Yeah hate to kick you when you are down but the amount of stress and maintenance (every 4 hours? what!?) you are describing seems pretty outrageous...along with that 160$ of chemicals. I think I've spent about 12$ on chemicals this year. I have a feeling you might be making fish keeping a little harder than it has to be...

But hey don't give up...let's face it if you toss all your fish and equipment you will probably just end up spending the next couple years buying it all back! :) Its happened to MANY people on this site it seems.

I had seven tanks going last year, this year I've got TWO. As others have said, pick a few favorites and thin out the herd. Keep the fish compatible (or ALONE:)) and bioload low. You'll spend a lot more time enjoying your fish and a lot less "working" on them. You might just start to remember why you fell in love with them in the first place. :)

Good Luck my Friend

if u wanna get rid of anything let me know..

LOL thanks for caring Headrush!! I am alright now everything has calmed down for me. I do regular maintenance now that my fish aren't destroying everything lol. I am doing good though. I actually am going to be setting up a saltwater tank soon so I am happy about that. Either a SW tank or I am buying a PS3. I haven't bought any replacement parts since which is a god send. The reason I bought $160 worth of chemicals was because I needed to restock on Prime, Melafix, Primafix and some Malachite Green. I also bought other stuff too like replacement parts but the chemicals costed me around $65 because I bought all big bottles. I am good for another 8 months so... How ever the SW tank is going to be pretty pricey but I am willing to go the extra mile on everything. Again thank you headrush for caring! Us MFK'ers have to look out for one another. Everything has settled with the Jeff Rapps order too.

throwing a hissy fit cause you had to replace a 29? try having a 55 leak all over the kitchen. or a catfish bust through a 300 gal. (dads fish)

or a 1100+ gal. pond full of sunfish, koi, and bullheads :nilly: talk about food expenses!

whats ur biggest tank? 29 gal? id invest in a 55 and 75 gal. easier to take care of. run dual or tripple filters so if one goes down you have backups, plus it keeps it REALLY clean and constant water movement never hurt.

so have a 10 gal in your bedroom. a 29 in the office/ spare room. 55 in the dining room and 75 in the living room. not cluttered, still have a large display and if something goes wrong with any of them, it wont effect any of the others... to much.

just some advice.;)
