I asked many questions found many answers on keeping a motoro.
Heres my check list:

-PH varies (mine is 7.2)
-Temperature varies (mine is 78)
-Amonioa needs to be at 0 mine is at 0.
-Tankmates should be chosen wisely
-Motoros can get quite large my tank will be a grow up tank for a 5in.
motoro, tank is 48in. by 18in. by 24in.

I missing something very very important...what is it:confused:

SUBSTRATE, i just cleaned out my entire tank and cleaned the gravel my question is:

Is this gravel ok for my ray?

Not my tank (copy and paste)

It looks a little sharp to me it could damage the under side of the ray i would go with sand or bare bottom if i was u .

Doesn't look sharp to me. It's actually very coarse though and most bottom dwellers would not be comfortable by it. Why not use sand?

No. Leave the sand to settle completely first before you turn on the filters. Do make sure your filter input flows maintain their distance from the sand once the sand has completely settled or you risk damaging the filter's motor machines by sand grains that get trapped in there.

post a pic of the actual tank.

substrate is nasty. sand, bare bottom or very small natural pea gravel is what you want to be using.

depends on the sand but very quickly. you must wash it before adding it because some sand is very dirty and will look awful for quite a while.

wash it buy putting a few kg in a bucket, fill with water, stir up and pour off dirty water leaveing sand in bottom. repeat untill water if left clear and sand is settled quickly in bucket. then add to tank. it takes time and is a pain but you tank will stay clear.

be carefull with sand, some sand is sharp and not nice for rays. use what others have used and you will be fine.

to me, sand or bare bottom is best. I have 3 rays, 2 of them love the sand. The other sweeps it away and loves the bare bottom.
