i disagree with the thread involving the venomoid disscussion being closed. i dont know who to notify or who to complain too so im just posting in here. im sure what varanio said about mfk not agreeing with the mutilation of animals but there is a whole herp culture that revolves about venomoids. as far as i know its not even an illegal practice. i myself agree with what the other posters said about if you cant handle hots then dont bother. i also agree that defanging a snake is cruel. most of us in the reptile community have reptiles and amphibians because we enjoy there beauty and amazing natural physical traits. why get a venmous snake if you are gonna defang it. it takes away from it. but just because i feel this way doesnt make me think that the other thread should have been closed. who is varanio to think that defanging a snake is mutilation? just because thats his opinion doesnt mean that the thread needs to be closed. i have no problem with his opinion, but i do think its an abuse of power to have the thread closed just because he doesnt agree with it. ive seen bat rays for sale here on mfk. arent bat rays just clipped ray pups? ive seen dogs for sale on here and posts of dogs.. what if i thought spaying or neutering a dog was cruel and mutilation? or the cropping of ears or having the tail cropped or whatever its called. does that mean i should complain about every dog post i see? or having a cat dewclawed? do you see what im getting at?

also, i read both pages of that thread and there was no attacking of other posters. no fighting.........do you see what im getting at there?

no i dont keep any. id love to get a rhino viper or a gaboon viper. those are amazing. a friend had a gaboon viper and man was that thing a beautiful beast!!!!!! but i know my limits. i have a habit of getting bit by any snake i handle hahahhaha. i wouldnt last one week with a hot. so i just admire them through glass at other peoples houses and the zoo

If you have any complaints about moderators, you should have forwarded it to the globals and admins to address it. You chose the wrong approach by targetting a moderator in the public forums. Varanio was only doing his job. Whether you like it or not, you have to respect a moderator's decision and should you have disagreements, either talk to him privately or try to have it addressed to the globals instead of pushing your issues to the public.

But I'd love to. I don't agree with defanging either. However, I'd like to get my hands on a spectacle cobra. Maybe get his venom sacks removed. Do you know if there are any other alternatives? I want to work with a devonomized(lol my own word) animal before I get something that can kill me. That way I can learn their body language and what not. I have a tendency to get bit by everything atleast once.

Well, first of all, "batman" rays are naturally deformed rays, not "clipped".

Second, I do think cropping a dog's ears is purely cosmetic, much like a nose job on a human being. While defanging a snake is like pulling your dog's teeth out.

It's basically physical alteration on a whole different level.

Ethics is very tricky, so we're treading on the "gray area" here. I do agree, someone's opinion should not be imposed on others, but what if someone thinks Hitler was a hero and the Jews really deserved to die? It's his/her opinion right? Get my point? Ethical rights and wrongs can not purely be judged and justified based on opinion, because that'd make nothing right or wrong (or everything right AND wrong). We have to set guidelines that tells us how to behave ethically, so that, yes, someone who thinks Jews should die is entitled to his opinion but he's outright racist. Are you willing to justify racism because it's "someone's opinion" of being right? I hope not.

As mentioned before, if you have a problem with a Moderator, you can either contact him/her directly via Private Message, or you can go to the higher ups (Global Moderator or Administrator) for complaints or concerns. In this case, I support Varanio.
