I have a 55 divided with a 2.5'' grammode and a 3'' istlanun. Both males, My hope is to bring out the personality in the grammode and also to get him eating. They obviously don't like each other, as they both spend most of the day trying to attack each other through the divider. I figure they will fight while trying to establish dominance but then after that, it is a crapshoot if they can co-habitat together. Do you guys think it is worth the risk to give it a go?

I would keep a close eye on things once the divider is pulled. You could lose one or both fish very quickly. Make sure you around to step in with the divider if things get too rough. I hope things work out.

Ya, I will def be close. What do you think about getting some small target fish and introduce them the same time I remove the divider?

Target fish could help. At least the Istlanum and Grammode will have something other than each other to focus on. But nothing is guaranteed. Even with other fish in the tank, the two cichlids could continue to attack each other. Take as much precautions as possible and give it a try.

Keep them divided: they're safe and healthy.
Remove the divider and add new fish: they go to war and are potentially exposed to unknown disease.

They can't live together in that tank longterm anyway, so why do this now? The end game is you selling one of your cichlids or you getting a second tank to put one of your cichlids in.

Ed is correct about the possible diseases carried by new fish. QT for a few weeks in another tank before you add them. I figured this was a temporary tank for both fish. Is this correct?

Yes temporary for both, wanted to upgrade to a larger tank as they grew and want them to live together. I will post a video shortly.

The video is taking a long time to load. I decided to put the divider back. I kept the target fish on the grammodes side to hopefully entice him to be a lil more active. The grammode was scratching up the istlanum pretty good. The encounter was a stale mate I would say. But for whatever reason the istlanum bite marks don't show the way the grammodes do. I did not want to risk scratching up the istlanum. I cant really say whether it would work or not, I obviously did not give it enough time but, it was not like they were constantly fighting, maybe I will try again in a week or so. It was as much as I could bare this time around.
