just wondering what would be an ideal oddball tankmate for a 14 inch fire eel i spied at a lfs theres two of em also when picking an older eel out what sort of things should i A. observe B. ask on feeding and behaviour? because i am upgrading to my dads 65 gal after he cycles his new 100 gal, also if you think £250 for a 100 gal AquaOne stand, tank, lights and hood is a great deal give me an opinion :D and i will compromise if its a mega wierd oddball but try keep it to asian oddball's

ask what they feed them, and ask to see them eat. they are finicky eaters at that size if they are WC and recently imported. check for any lesions, discoloration, ect. and Just to warn you they do get 3' ish more then a few people here have them pushing those sizes atm. You will need a bigger tank. mine are about 14" atm maybe 16. they've been growing steadily 1" per month or so. I keep them with a needle nose fish, a Royal pleco, and a juvinile Oscar atm. They themselves aren't really aggresive, particularly with mid-top range fish. but I'de be wary of other bottom dwellers, that might want to share hide spots ect.

ever since my dad bought his first oscar in a 20 gal to see if he liked keeping fish he upgraded within the first week got the 65 up 'n' running cycled replaced his O with 6 juvi O's ever since i got interested ive been running a 20 gal (forgot to mention that we ador our fish but recession was like a brick in the face for us we'd happily set up a tank in each room) hes got his O and im changing my choice all the time cos my mum doesnt like slimey eels even though ive told her on numerous occasions that they aint actually eels, any way they've had them for... about 2 months and i keep changing my dream stock cos i cant have an eel ill just try and buy it my self SOOO... what can you tell me from your experience about reqiurments and behaviour? and thanks for the info

sorry i was re reading my post & changed things thats why itll make no sense what so ever :hitting: btw i know a bit about them and what is the best food to feed them? i have earth worms readily available in my garden/local bait store

I'de compare their personalities with Oscars. But nowhere near as aggresive, unless with other spiney eels or similar shaped fish. very inquisitive, imo alot smarter then they act sometimes. make sure the lids secure and no places for them to get out, since they do have a habit of doing this. though to my knowledge none of mine ever have tried. I use duct tape.. tape on the underside sticky side up.. then tape another peice over that... and then tape it to the tank rim.. it's a pain to get off once you don't need it.. but it'll keep them in. though if i'm in the room i'll pop the front lid open for some extra circulation. Earthworms are great, just make sure they aren't ones from areas with pesticides/herbicides used.

p.s make sure there are no openings where they can swim into or up through the filter output... mine had a habit of doing so before i sealed (anti eel) my HOB... so be careful, otherwise.. awesome fish and very personable.. and kinda cute when they look at you with there tiny front fins out with that "Huh?" look haha

i have checked all over and ill only have to weigh down the lid but the filter has a grating should be fine with a larger eel but my mum insist's i get a baby eel for my 65 but realisticly itll get eaten by the filter and ill never see it cos its well planted but the eel i want is around 15"-17" ill ask to see it eat so i know if its picky or not also my dad's thinking about a BABY jardini for his new 100 gal what would be the average price for a red tail malyaisan aro? btw i stay in britain for those who only know $'s
