Did you just read a very entry level "How to write a school paper" book? You are right, in a formal or semi-formal writing one would never say "I think" "In my opinion" ect...
However, forum are kind of like really slow live conversations. In fact unkownzua really sums it up in his post...
"What if what I'm saying is a fact? Then it isn't my opinion. That is the only time I say IMO is when someone new asking the advice might think what I am stating is absolute and the correct answer in every situation. I let them know this is only my opinion. I do see where your coming from though."

on a more serious side. Often people would put things that is in their own experience... then others will come in and tear them a new anal opening. So to stop morons who yet to figure out that it is an opinion when people are asking for advice from their experience...
and we are more tired of people telling people to stop getting their panties in a bunch when someone says something to them... just for future experience
Really when the world is smart enough to figure out that this site is based on experience and opinions we will stop using it... until well you see it some much that you thought it would be fun to ask... you answered the question for your self....
