Impeller Damage

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks, that is not damaged but there is scaring in the casing where the impeller slides in, so will definitely be looking to get a new pump. Something quieter than the Mag 24 thats for sure. Any recommendations? Something that pushes, 2000-3000 gph at a 5 foot head with a 1" return.

Was looking at Laguna but they don't say what they pump at a given Head.

Shadowstryder, I sent you a PM, but I figured I would also post some info here too.

In case anyone is interested, here's the 2013 Laguna Product catalog that shows the pumps flow charts and power consumption.

Here's the 2011 product catalog. There are some distributors that are still selling the 2011 and older models that are slightly less efficient than the new and improved "Next Generation" pumps that they came out with starting in 2012.

For example:
2011 Max Flo 2900 (model # PT350) does............... 2,251GPH @ 6' head on 130 watts (17.3 GPH per watt)
2012 & 1013 Max Flo 2900 (model # PT8252) does.....2,140GPH @ 6' head on 112 watts (19.1 GPH per watt)

As you can see, the "Next Generation" pumps they started making in 2012 are slightly more efficient. Be sure to look at the model # and not the pump name in order to do a fair comparison when you are shopping around. You will likely be able to find the older models for sale (ex- PT350) at a lower price since they aren't quite as efficient as the newer (2012+) pumps (ex- PT8252).

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Thanks Aldiaz!

My quiet one did the same thing. It over heated causing the inside plastic to bubble up and the impeller rubbed on it more until it cracked the housing. Kinda crazy how the metal of your impeller cracked like that though. I'm gonna try the Laguna pumps next time my quiet ones crap out.
