LATEST UPDATES:

- books have been added to the references section; several of these may be easier to access via your local library than the journal articles. we will soon be setting up a network for those interested to get a hold of the journal articles as well.

- a growing list of FOSSIL GAR species has been added to the species page, photos and further information on these species will be added soon.

You may want to note in your book reference section that Nelson has a new edition of fishes of the world as of (I think) 2006 with some major changes over the previous edition.

thanks for the comment! i have definitely been following the latest edition over the years but have not yet seen the new book for myself. from what i understand there are no major changes to the gar phylogeny, hence i am going with the version referenced in my research and that of several others. again, thanks for the comment--

thanks anne! i have actually had that book sitting on my desk since october and have been reading various sections when possible. that and several other books will soon be referenced.

if anyone else has references they think would be useful, feel free to post so i can check them out!--

i have actually owned that book for 10 years...sitting in my office library right now. i am planning on adding a lot of these more general sources to the site in the very near future. feel free to keep posting potential sources as i will frequently updating.--
