gars are so amazing to watch and actually very docile. My gar comes up to the top of the water and I can gently pet his back. My favorite part of the gar has to be their paddle-like fins.

not sure how many people see new posts in the pinned topic section, but i wanted to make a quick note that i have started updating LEP.net...

i re-worked the original species page to include some photographs (as opposed to just illustrations) to aid in the initial ID...it makes this page a bit "busier", but i think it helps in showing differences among the species, all on the same page.

please let me know what you think and feel free to make suggestions as to what you would like to see added to the site. there is MUCH more that i have in the works to add...but of course it all takes time.

on a related note, Primitivefishes.com will be getting a major overhaul and i am hoping to have that done by the end of the month.

thanks for checking out the sites...they are there as references/(hopefully) useful info to anyone interested in these great fishes--

Eagerly awaiting further updates!

Hi All,

just wanted to let everyone know that i have (FINALLY) gotten around to making some updates to the LEP.net site. feel free to check it out, new additions include:

- brand new FLORIDA GAR illustration by Joe Tomelleri (finally completes the set of US gar illustrations)

- updated list of fossil gars (note that there are several NEW SPECIES including a couple newly recognized genera).

- updated references for 2010, including the new gar monograph, the season of the gar short stories book, and several new journal articles (many available online for FREE).

i am working on a multimedia section and adding more images and information...it's difficult to do this in non-existent free time, but i will keep up with what i can.

please feel free to share any comments, suggestions, etc!--

i posted this message in the ancient fishes section as well, but wanted to bring it to attention here too. PrimitiveFishes.com has undergone a major overhaul, and i just uploaded the new site today. still several imaging and wrap bugs to work out, but feel free to check it out. here is the original message:

hi all,

just wanted to post a quick note that we are in the process of doing a major overhaul on the primitivefishes.com site. i launched the new version of the site just a little while ago, and invite you to check it out if you are interested.

i am still working out several bugs with the imaging, and rest assured plenty more images and information will be added in the near future. it was just time to change things up after nearly 7 years.

hopefully the new site is a bit cleaner and simpler than the old site, and i'll continuously update it as well. thanks for checking it out, and your suggestions and comments are welcome!--
