I finally got a half-assed picture of the elusive "Piranha Platy"
I apologize for the blurryness, but my temp tank aint that clear.

wow... that's all I have to say. That's like a house cat running around with Siberian Tigers, really cool stuff... I wonder how long it will last. Really interesting that the agro happened without lights and does not with the lights on, maybe they are able to tell the gradation?

I had 5 RBP's before that accepted a tinfoil barb as part of the shoal... for a while. I originally put the barb in as food. It lived in there so long that I grown attached to it. One day I came home to a small piece of it floating around my tank. I guess they figured out he was an imposter. All it takes is for the 1st RBP to bite and then the rest always follow.

they probably only attack him at night cause i know piranhas have a fairly well developed sense of smell but there night vision isnt top notch so what happens is to them he probably smells like a platy but looks like a piranha so they think "oh he must be a funyn smelling one of us" but as soon as the lights go off they cant see as well anymore and just smell dinner

let's keep in mind that RBPs are not above cannibalism. They'll eat one of their own if they get hungry, or if they detect some sort of weakness. I'm guessing it's a matter of time. My serra had a little convict pal for a while. Lived in there for at least a month. Then one day he was just a lump of vaguely black and white striped tissue with no lips, eyes, or body in the bottom of my tank. So it goes. They are piranhas after all....
