The amount of orange may be genetic. If he is 2 years old and dominant I would expect him to show his max color now. Have you seen him spawn? At that moment, he should look his best.

I don't think diet will make a significant color change. Assume nitrates are already < 20ppm.

I wonder if jack is not trying to intensify the color but to get he orange to extend the full length of the fish along his back?

I think he looks good, most of the color is genetic or where they stand in the hierarchy. If there’s a more dominant less colorful fish, maybe put it on time out for a bit. That only works occasionally and it can backfire. I think that is his color and looks pretty nice imo.
