cross,you seriously need to do a waterchange badly,your white sand is yellow

No it's the Tannic acid in my tank. Makes it look like it's yellow. I didn't boil the wood long enough before I put it in the tank so all the tannins come out out fast. I do a 30% WC every other day and a Sand vac once a week. I like my Blackwater effect it brings out colors in my fish. Although now most of the tannins are out of my wood.

check for a dark spot on the dorsal fin,mine had a faint dark spot when she was young,that steadily grew darker as she matured

Lovely new fish, I like salvini's.

I used to keep two salvini's but never kept them long enough to breed, they died at about 5" in mass outbreak of velvet in my breaks from new fish.

congradulations,feed them color enhancers and the females will look like mine eventually.

Salvini are great cichlids...Good choice!

I noticed the random black dots right away and have to say I've never seen that type of marking on a salvini before.. ..has anybody else seen that?

Here's the juvie female I had until my GT killed her at around 3"

its easy to see the dorsal marking of the female in these shots too.
