At a local aquarium club auction, a bag of 10 Parachromis dovii came up, nobody was bidding and although the initial bidding price started around $20 for the bag, it quickly dropped to $2, and still, no one was bidding. So I picked the bag up knowing at the time I only had 6 ft tanks, tanks I consider much too small for even half grown dovii.
They whittled their own group down to a pair, and ended up in a 1000 gal kiddy pool.

Back when I had a basement I bought 20 Koi for some reason and put in 250 Gallon Tank. They outgrew that tank fast and ended up having to get rid of them, and the fish tank because I moved. Sad Story.... I don't have bigger tanks like that anymore because the water changes were something that I couldn't handle..... At most I will get a 120 gallon but nothing bigger.....

I have tried and failed with puffers numerous times, eventually learning how to do it right (I thought). At the lfs, I found 2.5 inch amazon puffers.
I instantly told myself I shouldn’t get one.
I walked out with it a few minutes later.
I did everything right care-wise, but it got harassed to death by giant danios. :wall:

One day I’ll actually get puffers right.

I've only ever done it twice where I was going to the LFS for "other" stuff but came away with fish.

Last year my wife went all gooey on three little catfish. They were beautiful if i'm honest and i'm not even a catfish guy. Anyway the guy advised me that they don't get that big so we took them there and then. When I got home I researched them and discovered they could get to 2' long, and are voracious predators! They went straight back and I told the guy what I thought of his advice. Lol.

And only a couple of weeks ago I came away with a 2" chocolate cichlid who was on its own in a tank. In the uk it's against the law to leave a fish in a tank on its own so i had to get it:liar:lol. I started a thread on the little guy and i'll be updating regularly.
