In a 125 or 240 gallon tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Currently all the tanks in the house are not cycled so i have no fish in it...except for the cycled(?) turtle tank.haha
so i bought all the fish and dumped it in my neighbor's empty tank(i think 300?).

but yeah they're all in the same tank and will be(well probably not in a few years..)

Stunting isn't exactly a good thing...

And they don't get stunted easier than most fish, it's just the percentage that are kept in adequate water quality are really low.

Most die soon after they're bought, much like yours, the ones that grow larger end up killing themselves by injuring themselves on things they bash into (this happens when you keep such a fish in too small a tank), getting sick and dying from the infection of those injuries, or do not grow to very large because they were kept in poor water quality their whole lives.

It's really bad for a fish to stunt it. The body stops growing but the interal organs don't necessarily stop growing.

The other thing about buying fish is that you should never buy fish depending on their potential MINIMUM size, you should buy fish depending on their max size or at least their max size in aquaria. You can't buy a fish HOPING that it only hits the min. size.

And you say the largest you've seen is 18"? An 18" ir. shark still isn't exactly the best candidate for such a small tank since they're so active. Of course, they'd fit, but it wouldn't be the most appropriate housing for them.

are they better in school or can i keep them by themselves?

man but i did not expect the sunfish to go at it..or the shark to go for it..
i thought the arowana might but i was thinking sharks are faster...

so what happens if the internal organs keep on growing? does the fish explode from inside-out?

well my neighbor's is in a big indoor pond and it's been at that size for years..ever since we first moved into our house like 10years ago.. it has plenty of swimming space too...

The fish, when severely stunted may hve interanl ruptures and infections from oversized organs. DO NOT stunt a fish.

Iridescent sharks are natural schooling fish and do better in groups of 4+. 4 Beecause many people cannot provide for more. But if you can house many sharks, do it.
