In common name hell.

Yep. I had always called it "ctenopoma". Easy. The rest are more confusing.

Create your own name...be a trend setter. Some of these pronunciations are a death trap. The scientific names aren't set in stone either. Its too complicated.

I agree with all the freshwater "sharks" that are really catfish. Its lame. At Petsmart the other day, this little boy was flipping out at having a shark in his tank. He thought it was the coolest thing in the world. Telling him it was a catfish would have been like telling him there is no Santa.

Being on forums dosen't help either...I don't "talk" fish with a heck of a lot of people, so sometimes I'm so used to reading the names and don't even think about the pronunciation until it comes up and I sound like an idiot.

Omg this is completely how it is for me. I don't even know how to begin pronouncing some of these scientific names to where someone will know what I am saying. Better to just write them out and show the person!

Simply "Ctenopoma" if someone asks what kind I say Leopard done
That's what I've always stuck with when I have kept them.I never cared much for the 'spotted climbing perch' name.

WAIT THERE IS NO SANTA:cry::nilly::cry:

Yeah I just tell kids that the Rainbow and Silver tips and Balas aren't really sharks and there is no "FULLY" Freshwater sharks (Bull Shark don't count because they go back to salt/dont stay in fresh forever [it'd be like Snowflake Morays in Full Fresh])

i just call it a leaf fish but i am a offender i guess of ID sharks even thought there a type/species of catfish but to me shark is easier than saying catfish when it comes to ID sharks..
