He took the appropriate size "repair coupling" and cut it in two...and then sanded down the end opposite the threads to fit into the "T" coupling...so as it sits, there are hose barbs in the "90degree elbow" and the "T"...a length of pipe between the "L" and the "T" and 1/2 a repair coupling in the end of the "T"....
I say genius!!

The "trick" fitting is a 3/4" repair coupler cut in half.
The last photo is the high tech tool I used to reduce the outside diameter slightly to fit in a 1 1/2" x 1" reducer bushing.
The inside diameter of the rubber cuff is ever so slightly larger than the heater glass tube but the compression nut takes care of it no problem.
