in tank sump??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know I'm kinda shooting off in a tangent, but how about taking two pumps and a timer that alternated sequencing on the pumps and then figuring out either the volume needed for alotted time or duration per volume given and created a sort of sped up tide pool. It would be great for biological filtration. Not as efficient as a typical wet/dry but still might be cool. just curious.

The first tank is an internal filter that a guy did.

The second pic is from something that I did similar, but I didn't completely get rid of the HOB. I took a 20g long and put a partition about 3" from on end and then made a tray/ramp that collected the water from the HOB and diverted it to the other end. In the partitioned section, I placed foam in the sections cut for overflow and then put nylon scrubbies in the rest. worked quite well until the fish out grew the setup.

what size tank is that for?? very nice i like that a lot.

oh sorry i mean the second pic.

Not really sure, pulled it off Arofanatics. I would wager that it is at least 130g, but that's just guessin. Kinda of a weird angle too.

If one were to use the format in the second pic, you could adjust flow by making a adjustable divider/gate that could be raised or lowered to increase/decrease GPH. Also with the water overflowing into the first section you would be increasing oxygenation, thereby increasing gas exchange. which you might not get from other "internal" filters like the one below. Btw, the filter below is rated up to ~50g. You could probably rig something up similar with a perforated canister/cylinder and powerhead suited to meet your needs (GPH).
