I just got a used 10 gal with incandescent lighting.
What do you guys think about these bulbs? I heard they are
too hot for fishes. I was thinkin of using this small tank
for a couple of my baby parrots. If I turn on the light for just
2 - 4 hrs/day, will this still be too hot for my fishes?

Should I get a florescent strip for $25 on a 10 gal ? :(

Thanx.

they're not as efficient. Definitely get a flourcent. Incadescent output way too much heat and produce less lumens.

Those cheap incandecent hoods with just a splash shield around the bulb stink.the condensation in the hood is always wrecking the bulb.get the flouro the money you save in bulbs, repairs and electricity the first year will make up the price.

Howdy,

I've had an off-the-shelf 10 gal starter set for 5 years now. Indeed, it has the cheapo lightbulbs. And you know what - it works great!

For a while I tried the screw-in compacts, and it was much brighter. However, they generated massive amounts of brown algae, and my plants didn't like them, either.

I have no problems with heat nor corrosion of the bulbs,.

i used to have incadescent bulbs on my ten gallon and the only thing that sucked was that they burnt out too fast. if you get a flourescent fixtures the bulbs will last much longer. my dad found a flourescent fixture a few years back and now im using it and it still has the same bulb in it.
