Increasing Birchir Activity?

I agree on the temp thing. Just bump up your heater to like 82 or a little higher and you should see a difference. If not it just might be his personality. I've got one like that too. Plus she doesn't like the tank lights on so hides.

Also among what I feed mine, I feed frozen silverside. The other fish have never shown an interest in stealing it from the bichirs. That and some frozen shrimp and beefheard will put some weight on him.

But yeah I have to feed my little delhezi at night after lights are out. He is most comfortable eating then and eats better too.
 
A lot of good points made here - my experiences - higher temp does make a difference 82-85 will keep him more active and really kick his appetite up. Probably the MOST IMPORTANT POINT - lighting. Polys are MUCH more active in lower lighting (I'm talking like a quarter watt per gallon). Also you are on to something...tinfoils arent good tankmates as bichirs are very slow to find food.
