Wouldn't Manaus be a bit too far north for scotti?

The tiger pattern and caudal ocelli remind me of cincta ... and their nostrils are close to their mouth like johanna from the pics I've seen. Deffinately never seen any with that spotted dorsal pattern though.

Thank you everyone!
Big pic, I was guessing female too.
Hadrian, I agree with dark pike, manaus is not in the scotti range.
Thanks peanut!
Thank you pike fanatic, I am so glad I caught it!
I agree with darth vader.
More pics soon, next time i am going with my fly outfit!

Cichla Identified it as Cr. reticulata google it, almost a perfect fit.

Dangit, that was going to be my second suggestion. Its coloration and body shape remind me more of sp. 'belly crawler' , so reticulata definitely makes logical sense! Very awesome man! They aren't a very common pike for sure. You have access to the awesome river, so there is no telling what you might pull up! Get some more!

To quote Mr. Kutty:

Very rarely imported. This very infrequently seen member of the Frog Head Pikes, previously of the genus Batrachops was collected by me in Rio Uatuma, Brazil in 1997. This is an aggressive but rewarding aquarium resident that has still not reproduced in captivity. Aggression has reduced the numbers to a dominant female and two smaller individuals of either sex. The females of this group sport wide red submarginal bands and a red band below the longitudinal line. They lack suborbital marking and humeral spots. Males of this group have small dark spots on the posterior soft dorsal.

A similar species, Crenicichla stocki occurs in Rio Tocantins but it differs fron C. reticulata by having its nostrils further away from the lip fold.

Its possible yours might actually be a male.

Wouldn't that be cool if you found some undescribed pikes!? Crenicichla hudsonii ? Hahaha

lol Thanks a lot. I hope its a male, as generally the males color up nicer.
Its an awesome fish. I just moved the tank with it in it to our new house it was fine when I left it two hours or so ago...:uhoh:
About the Cr. hudsonii, i was letting myself think about it for a bit there...
