Our neighbor has a tree and I just wait for the leaves to fall and turn brown... then i Just pick them up 
I've tried that before with my jardini but don't see any effects..
Maybe I'll try it agen with my asian aro, hopefully something happens..
Ill pick up maybe 10 leaves and place it in my filter.. Hope my aro be fine with it..

why not just buy a piece of drift wood 
almost the same effects and lasts longer. lowers pH constantly and makes your tank look like a huge tea pot, until it all bleaches out. i got a huge show piece and threw it right in... its been like 2 months and it still has the dirty water look to it and i do 25% water changes once a week
