so i moved with my holy grail of indo dats that somehow made it on the 6hr trip to my new place. moved them, they were small sizes like 1.5 " all the way to 4"....anyways i got bored and bought a bunch of firemouth cichlids and some jack dempsesy's? good idea or bad? indos look likke to be picking on them as soon as i put them in the tank...

If those cichlids can survive the dats picking on them the tables will turn as they will grow at a faster rate than your dats and the bully nature of the firemouth and Dempsey will come out.

i think the firemouth would probably be ok since they are not that aggressive compared to jack dempseys. just stay away from real aggressive and/or territorial cichlids. i have 2 oscars and 2 electric blue jack dempseys in with my 4 datnoids and they do well, the cichlids don't even pick on my little 2" indo dat and they are larger. electric blue dempseys are not even remotely as aggressive as regular ones.

I will agree with this but I have had firemouth cichlids that turned out to be relentless harassers.....That's not a word is it?

x2

my cichlids, including a ebjd, left my dat alone until the dat hit 6". then the dat became the aggressor

i have mine with a green terror mating couple they all below the 4 inch mark and its working out fine however the terrors are beginning to outgrow them so i might be selling them soon as another tank is not an option right now but since i have 6 of them (dats) with 6 c. loaches in the same tank aggression is manly directed towards the female and everyone else just clears the way and gives him space well see how long that lasts

From my own experience I'd never keep cichlids with Tigers. I've tried with true Parrots, JD's and Blue Acaras. They soon stressed and bullied the Tigers-even bigger ones.
