Indoor Intex pools as Ray ponds?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was thinking of something similar, but decided to attempt a circular poly stock tank from Southern State's. They can be easily drilled (for plumbing) and they are thick enough to withstand any abuse a ray may throw at them.

We are using Laguna ponds at the store. The largest ponds they make measure 69 x 46.5 x 25 and this is the size we use at the store. They bow a little when full, but are designed to be free standing. When time/money permits, we're going to box them in with a 2 x 6 frame and plywood and then back fill the box with sand to control the bowing (I'm a perfectionist and just can't let it go). The box will also allow us a way to build a stand into the frame that will support a wet/dry filter above the pond (we have limited space here). The two tubs house saltwater sharks and rays. The third is for freshwater rays. The saltwater tubs have a filter box sitting in the tub on a PVC frame. They work well, but the sharks and rays like to hide under them, making it hard to sell the fish. The frame/box idea will allow us to raise these above the water to allow better viewing of the fish. The freshwater ray pond is running with an FX5, which we are very happy with.
