I'm very surprised I'm not breeding roaches in my patio tank/greenhouse/sump system. We're pretty good about keeping the patio cleaned up, but native roaches can be a problem.

I live in subtropical too and from what I see roaches prefer indoor or subterrain environment. Probably they don't like the heat.
