we know that for a fact...do any of you guys have this fish or know of anyone who has it....how can you tell which are female and which are male. Also how can you breed these fish?

Well I have 2, and TheRealClare has a bunch...i think 7 or 8. If you remember, this is what your friend Caporegime bought right here at Big Al's after I sent him there.

It is a Channa Pleurophthalma.

I feed them feeders and frozen bloodworms. They love that stuff...I also fed them ghost shrimps once, they had a blast. As far as reproduction, I doubt your friend will be able to achieve this. First he only has 3, so chances of a pair are slight. Then if you read on the links provided in previous posts, you will see it's hard to breed. And you cannot tell which gender they are, only at maturity could you take a wild guess with head/body shape.

Mines are currently 4" and are in a growout tank with a 8" silver aro, 4 tinfoil barbs and a 6" irridescent shark. Life is good in there, everybody's each other's best friend...for now :)

I think that covers it...

major preditor, dont release him to the wild when you get sick of him, dig a hole in your back yard and burry him, sounds mean and is hard to do but this critter can really damage any environment.

ILLEGAL TO OWN FOR OBVIOUS REASONS, SEE PICS, BURY HIM IN BACKYARD WHEN YOUR DONE WITH HIM....or grill him with beer and chips!

It would be better to use a freezer than to bury the poor guy...The grilling idea doesnt sound too bad though ;)

I would NEVER release a fish in the wild. People who do that are morons :swear:

Mmmm...grilled snakehead

Those pictures are of a C. Micropeltes, the Channa pleuropthalma won't get nearly that big growing to something like 18 inches. I'm not saying releasing fish in the wild is a good idea, just saying they won't get as big as the c. micro, in the fotos

Congrats to your buddy! An extremely excellent pickup on these Beauties! What's the going market price for these there in Canada anyways ?... if you don't mind saying? And how often are they available there?

Try to avoid temperature flucuations... I hear they are quite sensative to this. :uhoh: GL to your friend once again, and happy keeping! Keep us posted. :)

'old pic found saved on an old cd-r. Photo credit, I believe goes to a veteran hobbyist, who goes by the name of... "StreetLightz?!! :headbang2
