Info on Bowfin

They are draining a lake by me in NJ and supposedly the lake is stuffed with Bowfin.
Anyone have any info on these?
 
big, mean, eat anything that swims, great to catch, my favorite fish, have been known to attack humans, can breathe out of water, have teeth, ancient fish....:screwy:
 
get me some :) there was a thread about them i think
 
I hooked one with 40lb test spiderwire, and it broke my line. They are voracious predators, eat anything. A very cool fish.
 
what is the best way to catch them. me and jsodwi went fishing for them on sunday but no luck. suggestions? i used fatheads for bait.

I fish in emergent weedbeds, I was actually fishing for bass. I saw that monster approach my floating rapala, and let him take it. He didn't give it back.

i was fishing in weeded areas with live bait. i didn't see a thing. i would love to catch one or two for one of my tanks. it a shame they are draing the lake
