I just picked up a pair and need some info on them. I forget the name but i think it was Geophagus Surinamensis. The ones that get Red when adult (I will post Pics later)

Anyone have any Adult pics of these guys??

What is their feeding needs?

Thanks

As far as I know they'll eat anything....pellets,flakes,ect.

That's what I bought my 6 fry as, they're 2" now. I've read and read and it seems the actual Surinamensis are supposedly rare and the ones we get online or at our LFS is something else. I finally gave up trying to ID mine because I couldn't find anyone who really knew. But aside from that-my 6 are the greatest little eaters. They eat anything and everything.

usually the surinamensis you find in stores is a Geophagus altifrons, which this one appears to be as well. he should eat what ever you feed him.

I bought it from All-Happy and he said it is a true Surinamensis.
Honestly, It dont matter if it is or it isnt, I like them:D.
As for ID, I just posted what i was told but just wanted some info on a good diet for them and growth rate.

Thanks

He said he had 3 diff species (I forget the names) but he said he did not have Altifrons (to me they all look the same:screwy::D but you could see there were lil diff). The other 2 species are still small (maybe 3-4" max) but he said they were deff Surinamensis. Oh well I just hope they live long in my tank, thats all that matters:naughty::D:headbang2

I reckon hes an altifrons as ture surinamensis are very hard to find as they are only been exported wild from surinam. Veyr nice geos i have a nice large group of different species they look bloodworm, flake and sinking pellets.

Thanks Boggy, with all this being said, how can you tell the diff between the ones that look like Surinamensis??

Any pics of Adult Altis? and what size do they get?

I was told they get RED when adult (Surinamensis) how about Altis?

As far as I know, the surinamesis have bodies that are more elongated as compared to the altifrons. The Altis no doubt is one of the most stunning geos esp when they reach adult size. I have both in my tank and love them to death.
