My LFS has a couple giant clown loaches about 5" They want $60 for each. I was about to get one but wanted to find more info on them. I tried google but nothing much pop up. How do they do with bigger fish like emperor ciclid, GT, Manganeuse?

5" isn't giant, and $60 is double what they're worth.

They should be kept in groups, also.

Giant would just be their term for the sizing; clown loaches get up to a foot long. In no way is a 5" clown loach a giant, its a medium sized clowny at best.

what's the different between giant CL and the smaller ones you see typically go for $4-5 a piece. Do they eventually grown into a giant? or are they completely different type of loach?

For $7 you can get ones about 2.5" - 3" around here. If you put them in a good size tank with lots of water movement and feed them a good varied diet with lots of protein twice a day they'll be 4.5 to 5" in no time, and you'll have 5 of them for the price of 1. I have a 10 gallon that once had what I called a snail infestation, which I now call my feeder-snail farm. :)

I've seen 5-6 inch CLs go for close to 60, but I would rather get em young and grow them out.

the problem is they take a year, or two to get to that size so the larger they are, the older, thus more expensive.

i wouldn't keep less than 5 though

and they get over 8 inches

That's too much! I just picked up a 4" chunky and healthy clown loach, which I measured with a ruler when I got home, from my LFS for $20 cash out the door. I've seen in my area 8'' CL go for $60. Keep on LFS hopping.
