info on green spotted puffers ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
55 gallon just like mine. I was in the same spot the past month and just last week finally got my puffer. You have a few choices.

-Monotrete Abei (what I got, active hunter, cool coloring, neat little guy)
-Hairy puffer
-Palembang puffer (was another of my choices but its lazy and not very active)
-Salivators (smaller, rare, can have a group with just one mail if heavily planted tank with lots of hiding room is given)

I think I may be missing a couple options.

The palumbang looks more like want im lookin for. But i do want quite an active fish...... Are there any pygmy or dwarfs tht are nice a bright colours aswell as active but still freshwater?

Just take a look over at the pufferforum.com they have profiles on all or most puffers so you can get info and pics on them. The palembang is a very nice looking puffer, but they mostly lay around and sometimes bury themselves and ambush prey rather than actively hunting.

Yep, the palem. looks like a pretty rock in your tank. Not much action there...

And pufferpunk knows much more than me, i merely learned by reading her words, and many others. Feel free to correct me if I was wrong on any of that info Pufferpunk.

can you put up some picz of what these would look like at the lfs.. google is kinda retarded cuz alot of other puffers pop up

Definately go to the puffer forum and use the puffepedia, it will have everything you need, including size of tank and fish, pics of them (including female and male where appropriate), water conditions, activity levels and much more! It will help you narrow the field down and then you can look and see which ones you can get.

To get you started, here is the first page of the freshwater section:
http://www.**************.com/forum/ug.php/v/PufferPedia/Freshwater/

Some species to get you started that can fit in the tank and are active (read the articles for whether singletons, pairs or groups):
Bronze or Gold Puffer
Irrubesco, Salivator, Lorteti
Dwarf Puffer
South American Puffer
Abei or target puffers
Hairy

If you didnt mind low end salinity then Figure 8s (have a look at brackish section)

There are varying degrees of activity but now it is research and availability!

Please be patient with TPF, we're having technical difficulties.
