Anyone know the typical behavior of GTs before spawning? I have a male and female pair and they usually get along however the last couple days they have really been testing each other. The male has now been clearing off a flat rock but he's only 3-4 inches at the MAX. (She's 5"). Does this sound like a breeding pair? They're in a 55 with red eyed tetras and a catfish.

That's about what they do. Have you seen any lip locking and sidways flarimg and shimmying?

The signal of breeding starts out with the female turning dark with two white stripes on the body and a dark sideburnt showing up on the cheek. They may challenge each other by jaw locking. If they are compatible, both will shake their head and attempt to clean a nest for deposing the eggs. If they are not compatible or ready, one will beat up the other depending on who is bigger.

Two white stripes will show up vertically on either side of the central spot, and the egg tube will be enlarged. It's not safe to have a bigger female than the male as she may harm him.

"Thanks for the info, she has the black mark on her cheek but where would the white lines be located?"

just look at my avatar.
