there are 2 genus of gar in the US. Lepisosteus and Atractosteus. gars are only found on this continent. and cuba.
 
i got mine off a draniage area by a lake and theyve grown 4 inches since i got them at 2 inches

At what stage does piscivorous activity begin in Lepisosteus osseus? and when is it that you should change the captive diet in Juveniles to reflect the added nutritional need? What is the best dietary intake in relation to weight for a Juvenile L. Osseus under 5 inches?

BTW.. Knowing the proper diet intake of a fish is a condition on how to keep them and make them grow.
