Info on pearsei's?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is one fish I've been wanting just can't find any.

Both "Cichlids of the Americas" and "Cichlid Connection" have pearsei listed, but they are mail order companies and both have minimum orders ($100 for COA and $50 for CC).

Great fish I would say pretty fast growers as well. Not very aggressive in my expericence

Are they really fast growers? Northo2000 said his grew to 6"-8" in a year and Worldwithoutsyns said his grew from 6" to 11" in 8 months. That's roughly 1/2” a month which doesn't sound too fast to me. Don't Oscars, red devils and jaguars grow about 1" a month?

If my one of my LFS can order me some I'll definitely be buying a few.

My current pearsei has gone from 2" to 5-6" in less than 2 months. They have the ability to grow quickly just a matter of supplying what they need.

Mine went from 6" to 12" in about 7 months. Seeing as most species I keep grow glacially slow, this is the fastest growing fish I keep. About an 1" per month.

Mine was hand picked over on Odessa at Cichlid Connection.

I had 6 of them, 4 of which lived for 8 years in a 240 gallon. I had one male and three females. Not the easiest species to breed, although I have seen others that have had success. Very thick, male was 16.5" when he died. Females were 14-15"". Males will have a high head profile, and the vent is pretty obvious once they reach 12" or so. I really enjoyed them, and would get them again if I thought I could breed them. Like others have said, high bio-load. Mine grew very quickly from 1" to about 10-12", then the growth slowed on the length.

Thanks mate, Have not tried venting :duh: If we go off the block head (high head profile) I should have 3 males - 3 females. Hoping the summer heat may heat things up in there a bit!

as for growth, roman lettuce will work treats with pearseis, mine go nuts when they get it.

Sweet. There will be some pearsei at a local cichlid swap next month. I'm definitely picking some up unless I can find some larger ones.
