there used to be a variant thread here that had pictures of a wild one.. but gone now..

I believe there was one person(non forum member) that had one and had pics, or someone knew of someone who had one. Might not have been in the u.s. though. And imo a super mono is almost rarer than azul's because azul's are identifiable from small size. Super Mono probably just looks like a reg mono when small.

Also I believe they are a variant not a seperate species so you probably won't find much seperate info. Not to mention the rarity. Someone correct me though if I'm wrong. But I know Nick has said there are species of pbass and then there are variants.

Well is his pictures the real-deal reference? I had a mono that looked IDENTICAL to that and killed it...should I be mad at myself?

If it look like the first juvi pictures posted then no. probably was just a regular mono.

super mono is just a nick name cichla term. they are all monos. just like when someone says is my rhom a diamond rhom and the other person says they are all they same thing.super mono= high quality mono.

super mono is a generic name given to monocs from regions that produce variants with spotting on their finnage...it is a name made up online by hobbyists...they are a "real" monoc..not a name identifying a high quality monoc...they can be found in certain river systems and have the large yellow spotting on many of their fins...I dont want to get into a discussion on these, but their are many keepers who have them...not really that hard to get.
gabautista, sent ya a pm ;)
