Infra-Red invisible Net?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That would depend on which red it is. If it is true infrared, maybe. Fish can see red, but at depth it looks more like black.

a $3 pointer from the hardware store and no these nets don't work my friend has these at his lfs and every fish can see it coming for them:nilly:

It's based on the fact that the red spectrum of light does not penetrate water as effectively as other colors. Because of this, some fish are blind to the red spectrum of light, or have decreased sensitivity to it. Not all fish though, and it varies as to what degree they cannot see it. It's the same reason there are red fishing lines showing up on the market in the last year or two.

You can see the net, but your fish may not - making them easier to catch.

Some fish can see red. It might work better than a standard green or blue net, but maybe not. It can't be any worse. "Infra-Red" is a bit of a mislabel as well. It's just red. They add the "Infra" to make it sound cool and high-tech. Infra-Red light is completely invisible to fish and humans.

I do find it interesting! Some of my fish follow a red laser some dont. I know for sure when they see a blue, black, or green net they freek out! I might try one, but I would love to hear from someone who has actually used one.

I don't think it's so much the fish "seeing" the net, rather the movement being detected by their lateral line. Not much you can do there.
