Hey Guy's,

I am in the process of building an outdoor pond and just need a few questions answered.

First, how big will i need to make the pond for a murry cod and a few goldfish/ Aussie natives, IE Depth, diameter etc.

Second, what is the best way to line it.. Pond liner or concrete??

Thanks,
Brett

Well it is mostly dug with the help of a Bobcat excavator, took all of 2 hours!, give me a call if you want to but a bobcat in Victoria! (sorry free plug!) LOL

Ok, so far we are about 12 feet long, 6 feet wide and about 3 feet deep, will get deeper once i am happy with size and shape. It is a sort of kidney shape.

What you think??

Brett

Pix are a little hard to see (hint hint).

What's the frost line up there?

Definitely needs to be deeper at one end, taper down to nine feet and I'd go 18ft long 9ft wide if you got the space.

Did I mention the pix were hard to see? ;)

Frosts can be pretty heavy but i am only 1hr from the murry river so i should be right.

Pics will be comming tomorrow night, was too dark when we called it a night!

I will see how i go for size when i have a look in the daylight to see if i can squeeze some more in....lol

You just missed breeding season for this year! Even some of my 2kg females (small) produced after some heavy rainfall 2 weeks ago. Ahh well theres always next year!!

I don't think i will have it ready for Cod for at least 6 months anyway, will stoke with some goldies first untill i am satisfied all is good!

Another question,

What will the best filtration be? was thinking a sealed pond filter??

Brett

What's your budget like? :D

Is it possible to keep the filter indoors? You'll loose the bacteria below 60*F (16*C).

Have you decide on what you are going to line it with?

And you can't sell the bobcat, you may want another pond or waterfall.

I didn't realise cod became mature at such a small size. Was this hormone induced or was it natural? Did you get any fry?

I'm guessing you kept them outside? How big was the pond, and whereabouts in Oz are you situated?

Ok, Pretty much finished.....

I went 18 feet long, 6 feet wide min the goes our to 9 feeet wide ay one end. still only 4 feet deep at the deep end but will shovel out some more now...

Budget is pretty slim as i am saving to get married!!

Not really anywhere i can put it in side but the is a shed right next to the pond i was going to sit everything anyway and that will stay out of the frost.

I think i will be going with the pond liner idea with a felt underlay, but need to find someone who sells it bulk! :nilly:
