Ingrown Stingray Barb

Kevin at stingray biology made a video on youtube about remedying this issue recently. Check that out.
I just saw the stingray biology video. Should I attempt to remove the barb myself or would it be better to find a vet to do it?
If I ever have this problem, I think I would wait to see if it comes out on its own as long as it looks like it's not causing an infection or other major issues. If it was causing major issues I would put on a nice thick glove and go for it myself I suppose.
As Gpdriftwood said I'd try and do it myself just as Kevin at Stingray Biology did. If taken to a vet they most likely experienced in this type of issue.
