How do you prime this filter canister? I am keeping it for my friend, and he told me it was OK to use until he get his tank running again. I am trying to figure out how to prime this filter. Anyone know off the top? Thanks in advance
First thing to do is close the intake valves to the unit, disconnect and drain it. Than hook up all the tubing except for the return to the spraybar. Open both intake valves and suck on the return valve untill you get a siphon and the canister fills up (make sure the canister is below tank level). Once water is coming out of the return, close that valve and connect it up the the other return valve. Open all valves and plug that mother in. Its pretty easy once you get a hang of it.
These are great filters, got two of these and they can handle a nice bioload. And a hell of alot easier to prime than my ProII 2026, and 2028 with the "Push to Prime"
exactly what he said, the eheim classic range and the bucklet filter are great.
That's all you have ot do, give the return hose a quick suck, then connetc it to the spraybar. The canister and fills up, then the water sometimes goes all the way up to the spraybar, and voila, turn it on.
Turn it off and on a couple of times in case of trapped air, they usually prime well and quick.
Here's a good tip:
When the filter is filling, close the return with your finger and listen. If you hear hissing noise, your O-ring is positioned wrong and you should reposition it. I've always done it on my Eheim Classics, and in about 20 years, it happened once. It's not a lot of work, and most of the time it'll be okay. It's more for the peace of mind.
