last week my 1yo silver managed to get out of the tank. not sure how long he was out, but it was most likely at least 45 min. we were home about 30-45 minutes before we found him. didn't hear him jump out, so i'm guessing he got out shortly before we got home.

he was pretty banged up and not looking good at all. his skin was quite dry. when i put him back in the tank, he was floating vertically and barely breathing. i held him upright for about 10 minutes before he started moving more and righting himself. after another 30 minutes he started swimming somewhat normally

it's been a week and he hasn't really been eating. also, along his back there is a thick cloud of white material. his scales in the area also seem to be slowly breaking apart. the while cloud comes off when he swims vigorously or if i try to brush it off.

any advice on what to do? i'll try to get some decent pics.

thanks in advance

Up the temperature to 30deg C. Add common salt.
I had a similar experience and the injury resulted in fin rot.
Treated same with terramycin and it helped.
All the best.

^^ agreed

lowered your water level if can and no light just till recover

Hi.. could you please post some pics.. the aro is definitely stressed out.. have you secured the lid on the tank now? jus give it time.. the cleanest stable water you can.. lots of oxygen.. not much current from your filters or flows.. it takes the aro sometime to get their slime coat back.. prob up the temp a couple of deg thats it.. jus give it time and yes.. dim the lights.. finally.. are there any tank mates? its better to keep the aro on its own for the time being.. hope everythin is ok for ya aro soon.. cheers mate..

I would lower the water level to just barely over his back, make sure there is alot of oxygen, add more aloe vera or slime coat, stress coat. little salt at a time. You can use melafix with combination of little salt. Keep the tank dark and calm. Do water change every other day. Repeatedly until he recover. Good luck

Thanks for the advice. I don't have a heater.. The tankmates are 6 bala sharks, 2 common plecos, and 2 bristle nose plecos. The rest of them stay out of the aro's way for the most part. I have a HOB filter so I can't really lower the water level much. I've turned out the lights tho. Should I also cut the CO2 then? This is a lightly planted tank w/ 110w of CFL and 40w of t12 fluorescent.

Keep the water as clean as possible, do your waterchanges(40%-50%). As other have stated, up the temperature to around 84-86 F and add salt. Good luck!
