the defect is nothing, should heal within a week. just add some salt and bumpp the temp up about 2 degrees higher than temperature ur tank right now. might need to add few drop of fungus control if you do. if not then that's fine, just take little longer.
make sure your water quality are good.

add a little salt and it will heal with time it will need to be moved away from fish that pick on it for a while or at least have some good hideing spots

yep agreed . happ to hear he is safe now,how big is he. i had a 5 inch ctenopoma that had this and within a week it was better.
