hey guys...
unfortunately my beloved pleco passed away a few days after my original post.
I cant say with any certainty what did it, but i think maybe a spike in ammonia levels after placing him in a much a smaller tank may have had something to do with it. It was obviously not equipped to handle his bio load and i probably should have been doing small daily water changes. But he seemed to be doing fine, eating well and the wound looked the same day to day.
It was on the third day after moving him in that i came home from work to find him floating in the corner. He was curled to one side and stiff as a bone. I have heard of people experiencing miracles when a fish appeared dead. I positioned him in a part of the tank with vigorous water and oxygen movement for about an hour just in case, but there was no change and i could sort of tell by his remaining eye that it was too late.
Anyway, i've definately learnt from this experience and thanks again to everyone who offered some advice.
Rest in peace little dude.
Cheers,
andrej.
