I still want to try one on another tank but need to understand more why the splitter is needed. Whats wrong with the 306 model ? So basically one outlet (chiller) isnt used and you run a splitter off of the one outlet (heat) to two heater ?

I have the 306, 6 months and no issues.

As mentioned seems more sense to me as never going to need a chiller, only heating lol

You bring up a good point thought..... one outlet with 600wats of heater.

The setup you mention in your first quote above is exactly how I have mine setup.

As for the 600W (up to 1000W) on a single outlet, if you get one you will see how heavy the gauge is for the cable used. Like I mentioned in my post above, the splitter, which is much lighter gauge than the InkBird cable, is rated for over 1200W. I have no doubts that that the outlet/wiring of the InkBird will handle the 1000W it is rated to.

I would have to give these units a test before I could weigh in on pro and cons. I think even the smallest ranco takes up to 1800w though, goes up from there. The ranco isn't really different in the splitter department, I think.

I can say with almost certainty now that I've had a ranco I would never put a large system on an inkbird at the difference of less than $15 usd on amazon. I assume you don't have to do any electrical work out of the box though.

Holding the unit in my hands, hearing the relay click, and only issue on multiple units was with the probe. The ranco really feels like a super solid unit and I can't imagine giving it up. The display on the inkbird looks really weak, I'd imagine it would give out longer before the unit.

1100w 308S model has a different probe. I attached a pic of this unit. It's a 45 dollar unit.

Fish Tank Travis Fish Tank Travis any differences with this other than the 12" probe upgrade?

My probe issues were with an unwrapped ranco. The newer units have nicer probes, so far still working, still didn't wrap it.

Im not.knocking the unit still would like to try one out on the 150 gal but not sure im comfortable with splitting it. Im sure its fine but i dont like to mess with electrical stuff other than what the manufacturer intended

When you hear about a man beaten to death and the only evidence is a ranco covered in dorito crust, don't mention me.

Bet the thing will work afterwards too.
