Inquiry of Cuban Cichlids - Split Posts

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
easy to get wild cubans,(all you need to do is find some one in canada or any where in europe they can get them from cuba and you can get them from them,no one but usa has an embargo with cuba)so its not hard some people on here just seems to think they know everything, btw check the spelling before you google earth, since you know everything. hhmmmmm

...so easy to get that everyone has them, right?

Here's what Rapps had to say about whether he has recently sold/had access to wild tetracanthus (a few months ago):

Nope. I had F1 blue tetracanthus about 20 years ago. They are loooong gone. That would be a very cool fish to see in the trade again....

Ive never advertised or listed anything I've sold as F anything in terms of tetracanthus. I won't ever claim an F number to tetracanthus in the trade nowadays. They are very far removed from wild stock. Lucky for those of us who keep them, they've remained very well in tact (no 'sweetheart' tail less forms, balloon body mutants, etc.

Like, I'm sure, a lot of people, who saw this thread, I asked myself, "Really?" I Googled the location provided to see where on the island it is and perhaps see pictures of the habitat...

If the spelling of the location is incorrect, then what is the correct spelling?

If someone is going to claim to have wild Cubans, then they should be prepared to answer some questions....as there are likely a bunch of prospective buyers (including me) of more of them (or legit F1s).

I'd prefer to keep this on the thread rather than in rambling PMs.

Thanks,
Matt

I had not considered that wild tetracanthus could be obtained via other countries. Interesting thought - do you have more info on these occurrences? I had not heard or read of this occurring since I have never heard of distribution of wild tetracanthus - up until now - I would be interested as to those non-US sources.

OP - nice fish.

you are absolutely right. i will keep it on the thread(apologize if i offended you with the truth)most just don't know that the usa is the only country with an embargo against cuba, most countries can obtain things from cuba. Cuban cichlids are not illegal in the usa and can be obtained through other countries, its just the fact that we in the usa can not get them directly from cuba but you can get them from countries like canada and various other countries in europe its all about who you know and how well you research on the subject botttom line. Most of us including myself just dont bother to see other ways of obtaining them because we are told over and over they can not be obtained. But after a little searching the info i have found has was amazing, now that i am informed with the truth i no longer have to rely on the words of others just because i didnt know any better. Before you jump to conclusions all i can say is do the research yourself. That is all i will say on the subject(dont want to derail this thread) kareef i apologize for the derail just had to say my 2 cents. by the way great fish and keep up the good work and keep making your collection even better.

All right, folks. I decided to split the posts from an original thread. Please keep this on topic towards the inquiry of the particular fish in general and not of the member's particular fish (in another thread) since this is now a separate thread.

Original thread can be found here.

I'd appreciate that you cooperate on this matter and try not to complicate it.

I missed the posts after mine and I guess with the split I've lost the context of this new thread and don't quite follow buddha's last post. Is there something you can share? Sounds like you have some knowledge on this.

I hope this question is consistent with the mod's directive - if not, I apologize.

Shoot an email to Oliver Lucanus of Below Water, as he supposedly brought some in last year I think?

Not sure if this is his email or just a general email. fish@belowwater.com

Unfortunately it seems more and more that this site is dumbing down to just twenty comments of "nice fish" after a thread is started.
