Insain Jack Dempsey Story

No pork because its not good for their intestines. They have a hard time digesting those kind of fats. Raw fish and shrimp are excellent for a dempsey because they adapted to be able to digest these types of foods. My jack gets in moods too, Sometimes he hides for a week, sometimes he goes crazy for a week. Thats just their personalities.

Water quality is much more important than salt. I've never used salt except for my marine and brackish tanks (obviously). Expecially since most people don't use it properly. They don't know how much to add and how to mix it the right way, thus negatively affecting the already stressed fish.

Salt is great for fish. Ive actually dumped salt directly on a Dovii that was on its side literally dieing of ick and in 3 hours in 85 degree water it was up and swimming. I dont know if that says anything, but salt is found in alot of natural ecosystems and ive always used it as a tonic and treatment with only good results.

Last night at about 3 i was in bed txting, and out of the corner of my eye a familiar face was lurking behind me. :) 8 hours on the floor and he still scolds me for txting while hes trying to sleep.

...No pork because its not good for their intestines...

I'll take that into consideration when I feed him, however I feed him very small amount of what ever I do a few times a day so i don't think it will impact his health to a degree where the quality of his life will be effected.

Jacks eaten;

Dried Shrimp, Flaked fish meal, betta pellets, Turtle pellets (its crazy to hear him chew them)...Snow peas, lettuce, the center of a pepperoni, sloppy joes, fancy gold fish, some of a RBP before I returned them, attempted to eat a 2 year old turtle, a few worms, a few bugs including some crickets, he's destroyed every plant I've put in his tank, killed about 20 water snails...

When hes happy, he'll even jump out of the water and eat off my finger :screwy:

Glad he's doing well, If my jack jumped out he would land in 1 of 3 other tanks that surround his, in front about 2 ft lower is my 20G guppy breeder tank, directly to the left is a 10G Ghost Shrimp tank, and the right a 10G Rosy red feeder tank...I think he's be fine in any of them.

hella cool man, makes me wanna buy a jack now.

Feeding your JD pepperoni, pork, and sloppy joes really isn't the best thing for its health. It's your fish so you can do as you wish. It's just not a good idea. Anyway, if he's as active as you describe, I doubt if his earlier incident on the floor has had any adverse effects on him.

I understand his diet isn't 100% perfect tho I don't starve him to make him eat the wide variety of food he does, he just gets opportunity to eat whats in my hand when he starts attacking the glass trying to get at me.

I don't think i'll feed him more "human food" after what hes already been threw, at least for a while...But, I would suggest that the lean beef is probably more healthy then the fatty tissue in the goldfish. Tho the pork, and anything fatty will definitely be cut out of his diet for sure.

Take the goldfish off the menu too while you're at it. They are better than sloppy joes but still not the best food.
