They need abnormally high temperature so as long as your house is below 70 or so degrees they wont breed if they escape and will likely die.

meal worm are real easy to breed and don't take to long to grow if you feed them well

Best advice for anyone looking to keep roaches in a house with someone who doesn't like them: call them 'beetles', and the immediate disgust is avoided

This is the best solution, but not the most practical for many people .

Another solution is to sneak the roaches in. You can easily maintain a colony in a rubbermaid, so it looks like you're just keeping stuff organized.
